Winter Wear

Winter costumes! Why? Because it's freaking cold out and I figured these guys would have to deal with that at some point too.

This actually all started when I came across this little dress:

On Mod Cloth a site I like to visit but never buy from because I can't afford to. Anyway, the dress looks like something Bluu would wear and later when I saw a post a friend made that included scarf head wraps it all came together in my head and I designed Bluu's winter gear. But I couldn't just do one character after all! So the whole crew (except Pete Doug who would be swathed in furs and blankets to keep him alive) gets warm winter clothes.

I know I know, that dress is nothing like the winter clothes Bluu ended up with. It was just inspiration is all.

Pride and Courage

And thus number three in the series is done.

Andrew is easily an embodiment of pride but his pride also lends him a sort of bravery. He doesn't know when to back down and is quick to anger both of which are represented in this piece by the multitude of different blades surrounding him. His regal attire, with a lion clasped cape, is also a show of his prideful nature as well as his noble blood.

As a side note Andrew does in fact use many different blades when he fights. Though he has mastered none of them his style is such that his speed and strength are often enough to ensure his victory.

I'm rather happy with this piece over all, generally speaking men are much more difficult for me to illustrate then women (probably both because I'm female and most of the models I've drawn have been female. Male models were hard to come by at school and the few we did have were all about the same shape ie. round...which Andrew is not). It took me a rather long time to finalize his clothing as I wanted something that seemed kingly but also had an aire of battle to it but I think I pulled it off decently well.

As odd as it is I'm very fond of Andrew's little beauty mark...the real one this character is based on has it too <3

And now on to number four!

Some new art

Ohbakaybee folks here's the finished 'Santa Drake' piece as well as a few other goodies. Enjoy!

This is a cute little crew pic, just cause. Been practicing with my new art program, ArtRage. It's pretty awesome I suggest you check it out if you draw/paint/etc

This is a quick profile view of Nadine, this was the first thing I drew in ArtRage, I think it turned out pretty nicely.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Been a while

Huge lag in updates, as per my usual lazy internet attendance. A lot of things have happened since my last post the biggest of which is getting engaged to my sweet boy^^ Anyway, here are a few in progress things as well as a finished work or two.

We'll start with what I did forever ago and that is start another little series (yes, I'm still working on the big group picture of them in the inn, I promise). This series is each individual crew member in the aspect of some sort of abstract concept. The first one I finished was Drake as 'Battle' but I really don't honestly like it so I'll be redoing this piece sometime in the future.

After this one I moved onto Bluu in the aspect of 'Mercy.' I'm much, much happier with how this one turned out although the hand holding the bullet is slightly off and it's difficult to see that she's holding something.

I'm working on the third one which will be Andrew in a bit of a mix of the aspects of 'Courage' and 'Pride.' Because he is a long standing creation of my fiance I tend to be much pickier with Andrew and how he looks. I want a very rich, almost kingly feeling to his clothing and was having a difficult time achieving that. However, as you can see in the rough sketch, I've gotten past that. Hopefully soon I'll have a nice, polished version of Andrew.

Last but not least is a christmas themed image of Drake, um, protecting children from becoming spoiled. Yes, she's stealing from children but hey, she is a pirate. It's interesting to note that in the world the story is set in, there is no christmas (though we're considering some sort of winter solstice). I'm especially fond of Pete Doug the red nosed reinraptor. The finished for this one is on the way and I just want to note that the cropping is quite different and there is a vignette style village in the background.

Been a while...

I realize I haven't been updating much here...I've been swamped with a few freelance jobs and haven't put much time into my own projects as I would like. I'm still working on the Cocoa illustration though it's on hold for now. In the mean time I'm making a quick Halloween picture that I should have up by the end of the week!

Most of the conceptual work I've been doing since August has been developing the story rather then the art and that stuff I won't be posting (don't want to give anything away after all!) But hopefully soon I'll have enough of the story worked out to actually start the writing and drafting process!

Wish me luck!

Mmm cocoa - more WIP

I'm working on an illustration of some of my characters, I'll have the six main people of the Minket's crew in it...here is some of the line art I have done, I'm doing each little group separately to give myself an easier time drawing out the details. Basically it'll be a big group pic of them at some sort of inn drinking cocoa. Yay cocoa!

Bluu and Andrew enjoying cocoa^^ This is the first full body shot I've drawn of Andrew, I'm pretty happy with it. He's always overdressed but in this pic he'll fit in more.

Drake and Belle also enjoying cocoa XD
